CHALLENGE:
Layout and design a book based on an assigned collection of seven related essays on historic typographic processes.
DESCRIPTION:
The essays within Analogue explore the beauty and relevance of manual typographic practices of typesetting, letterpress, typeface design and more. The idea of processes that are analogue, or not digital, is a theme among the writings and inspired my design approach for the book. While I created the grid and structure of the book digitally, the entirety of the imagery was laid out through physical collaging by hand, then later scanned into Photoshop. The content of the imagery is a collection of antique typographic samples including bottle caps, stamps, seed packets, labels and tins in addition to out-moded technologies and organic floral forms that all relate to express a reverence of the past.
